The HCPCS Level II quarterly update for July 2024 is now available on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website. The update includes:
134 added codes
9 discontinued codes
32 codes with long description changes
3 codes with payment changes
New HCPCS Level II Codes
Effective July 1, 2024, there is one new A code for diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals:
- A9506 Graphite crucible for preparation of technetium tc 99m-labeled carbon aerosol, each There are three new C codes:
- C1605 Pacemaker, leadless, dual chamber (right atrial and right ventricular implantable components), rate-responsive, including all necessary components for implantation
- C1606 Adapter, single-use (i.e. disposable), for attaching ultrasound system to upper gastrointestinal endoscope
- C9901 Endoscopic defect closure within the entire gastrointestinal tract, including upper endoscopy (including diagnostic, if performed) or colonoscopy (including diagnostic, if performed), with all system and tissue anchoring components
The new G codes are G0519-G0528 for new patient-caregiver management services and G0529-G0531 for other care conducted in the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) model. Also added are G9037-G9038 for interprofessional and co-management services.
There are 23 new J codes for injectable drugs and 25 new Q codes for various wound supplies (Q4311-Q4333) and injectables (Q5137-Q5138).
Discontinued Codes
The nine codes being removed from the HCPCS Level II code set, effective July 1, are C9113, C9166, C9167, J2780, J9371, Q4210, Q4277, and S0164.
Long Description Changes
Of the 32 codes with long description changes, all but one are to newer J codes to correct grammatical errors. The change to the one Q code increases the dosage (emphasis added):
- Q2055 Idecabtagene vicleucel, up to 510 million autologous b-cell maturation antigen (bcma) directed car-positive t cells, including leukapheresis and dose preparation procedures, per therapeutic dose
The previous description indicated 460 million autologous bcma directed car-positive t cells.
Payment Changes
Payments will change for the following three codes effective July 1:
- A9593 Gallium ga-68 psma-11, diagnostic, (ucsf), 1 millicurie
- A9594 Gallium ga-68 psma-11, diagnostic, (ucla), 1 millicurie
- C9790 Histotripsy (ie, non-thermal ablation via acoustic energy delivery) of malignant renal tissue, including image guidance
The pricing indicators for the two A codes is 57 Other carrier priced and the pricing indicator for the C code is 53 Statute.
